Our Performance
Safety and Environmental Stewardship is a core value at Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL). Our top priority is the safety of our employees and contractors, communities, and the environment we all share. Simply put, this commitment to safety fuels our focus on earning your trust, and on continual improvement.

Operational Excellence Management System
Our Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) guides our safety and environmental performance, laying the foundation for continual improvement and helping us keep operations safe and environmentally secure. We are dedicated to a comprehensive safety and environmental strategy, focusing on key goals and priorities reflected in our culture, programs, and processes.
Employee and Contractor Safety
At MPL, we believe that every employee and contractor plays a crucial role in fostering a safe and healthy workplace. We are dedicated to creating a safe environment, and we work diligently to prevent incidents and injuries throughout all our operations.
Personal Safety Goal
2025 Goal: Achieve an OSHA recordable incident rate of 0.30 or lower per 200,000 hours worked for employees and contractors.
Actual: 0.18 OSHA recordable incident rate achieved.
Though we met our OSHA recordable incident rate goal in 2025, we are continuously working to improve workplace safety through peer observations, sharing best practices, and identifying leading indicators of significant incidents.

VPP Star Certified Sites
OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) helps us focus on safety improvements throughout our pipeline facilities and operating locations.
Public Safety and Engagement
Proactive engagement with our neighbors and communities is vital for public safety. Our dedication to the community is guided by our public engagement program, Earning Your Trust, and our three core principles: mutual trust and respect, truthful and timely information, and open communication.
Public Engagement Goal
2025 Goal: Conduct 171 or more in-person engagement events with key stakeholders and local communities.
Actual: 378 in-person engagement events conducted.
While we communicate with all our 730,000+ stakeholders, we prioritize face-to-face engagement in communities with elevated third-party excavation risks and where relationships need strengthening.

Commitment to Public Engagement
We are dedicated to Pipeline Public Engagement, striving for meaningful community involvement to enhance pipeline safety and promote environmental stewardship.
Spill Prevention
Though pipelines are one of the safest, most environmentally friendly ways to transport energy, the unexpected can happen, and mistakes are possible. In the event of any unintended spill of pipeline contents, we are committed to taking responsible actions to contain, mitigate, clean up, repair, and replace anything adversely affected by an unintended spill, no matter how small.
Spill Prevention Goal
2025 Goal: Prevent all spills impacting people or the environment.
Actual: 99.9999% of all contents transported were delivered safely.
In 2025, we had a total of seven PHMSA reportable spills with a total release volume of 1,785.15 barrels. The majority of this volume (83%) consisted of spills on our property, which were fully contained within our facilities and cleaned up with little or no impact on people or the environment.
Responsible Remediation
It is our commitment to earning trust that encourages us to take responsibility for a spill, no matter the location. Where liquids from our pipelines may have inadvertently damaged property, we strive for complete clean-up and environmental remediation, ensuring we leave the property in better condition than it was before the incident.

Safeguarding Pipeline Operations
Operating pipelines safely and reliably is at the heart of our mission. We achieve this through our robust integrity management program, the strength of our people, and our culture.
Biodiversity
We take proactive steps along our rights of way to protect plant and animal species and preserve their natural habitats, while also protecting the integrity of the pipeline.
Biodiversity Target
Goal: Apply sustainable landscapes to approximately 10,000 acres, or 50% of compatible MPL rights-of-way, by the end of 2025.
Actual: 10,215 acres of sustainable landscapes have been applied to MPL rights of way as of Dec. 31, 2025.
Thanks to the dedication of our employees and environmental partners, we not only met this five-year target but exceeded it.

Commitment to Biodiversity
We are dedicated to avoiding and minimizing ecological impacts and engaging with communities and agencies to foster environmental protection.
Certified Wildlife Habitat
One of our pipeline facilities has earned Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) Conservation Certification®—the only voluntary sustainability standard focused on enhancing biodiversity and promoting conservation education across corporate lands.

Martinsville, IL
Our 250-acre Martinsville, Illinois facility creates and improves diverse wildlife habitats across open fields, farmlands, and forested areas along the North Fork Embarras River.
