Tribal Neighbors
At Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL), we are committed to engaging and collaborating with Tribal and Indigenous communities to safely develop and protect the traditional lands where we operate.
Engaging with Indigenous Communities
We seek to include Indigenous views on safety and the protection of cultural and environmental resources to guide how we plan and carry out our projects and daily operations.

Recognizing Unique Cultures
As sovereign nations, each tribe has its own culture, language, customs, and government. To build strong, respectful relationships, we engage with each Indigenous community individually and offer educational resources to our employees. Our goal is to meet with tribal leadership at least once a year.
Report a Pipeline Emergency
To report a potential leak, suspicious activity near an MPL-operated pipeline or facility, or if a pipeline is struck or exposed, call our 24/7 emergency number: 1-833-675-1234.
Pillars of Tribal Relationships
Our initiatives directly support three pillars of responsibility as we contribute to building positive legacies with Indigenous neighbors.

Engagement
For community collaboration

Education
For cultural preservation

Investment
For meaningful impact

Engagement Planning
Stakeholder engagement plans guide our interaction with tribes and Indigenous communities with strong cultural ties in the areas where we operate. We hold discussions with Indigenous and tribal nation leaders who share valuable perspectives on how to best engage their communities. This collaboration enhances the way we work together as guardians of public safety and as environmental stewards.

Cultural Training
To improve ongoing collaborations, we provide engagement training to MPL employees who work with, or have the possibility to work with, tribes and Indigenous communities.
Training focuses on:
- Tribal history
- Cultural understanding
- Effective methods of communication
- Volunteer opportunities and organizational support

Working Together for Community Safety
At MPL, we work hard to build strong, lasting relationships with tribes and Indigenous communities by focusing on shared values and open communication. We work closely with tribal, federal, state, and local agencies to address concerns and protect tribal rights, resources, and cultural heritage. We ensure pipeline safety, especially across tribal lands and waterways, is our top priority.

Tribal Affairs
Safety Resources
These go-to resources provide clear instructions, safety information, and training materials to educate tribal leaders and members about the MPL-operated pipelines in their communities.
