Preparing for Emergencies

Pipelines are the safest way to transport energy, yet emergencies can happen. If a pipeline incident occurs, MPL and first responders are ready to gain control as quickly as possible.

Emergency Response Plans

MPL has developed extensive emergency response plans for all our operational sites, based on the knowledge of our personnel and the availability of equipment, tools, and materials. Marathon Emergency Response Plans are readily available at every facility and can be accessed by emergency officials upon request.

Equipment and Facilities

Federal law requires specific training to operate pipeline equipment. During an emergency, MPL's personnel will handle these duties. NEVER attempt to operate any pipeline equipment, such as valves, in an emergency. Doing so may worsen the situation.

Emergency Official Grants

We offer grant funding to emergency officials near the pipelines we operate. Emergency response teams can use grants to attend training sessions or acquire new emergency response equipment.

How to Apply for a Grant

While grant proposals are accepted by invitation only, we encourage emergency responders to reach out and share their needs. If selected, you'll be contacted with further instructions.
