Public Engagement: Earning Your Trust
Trust is earned over time, and we are committed to earning it through safe and reliable pipeline operations. Your input matters, and we welcome it as we strive to be a trusted partner in public safety.
Earning Your Trust Program
Safe and reliable operations and open, honest communications are the foundations of our Earning Your Trust program. Through meaningful stakeholder engagement, community involvement, and industry leadership, we strive to be guardians of public safety and a trusted neighbor.
Our Commitment to You
We believe that an engaged public is better informed and safer. That is why we actively engage with the public at every stage of the pipeline lifecycle, from siting and construction to operation, maintenance, and decommissioning.
Our approach to public engagement is guided by the principles in the American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practice (RP) 1185, Pipeline Public Engagement, which promotes meaningful community involvement and transparency in pipeline operations.
Our Three Core Principles

Mutual Trust and Respect
We treat every interaction with honesty, respect, and a genuine commitment to listening. Whether we’re working with local leaders or having conversations with neighbors, we aim to build relationships rooted in trust.

Truthful and Timely Information
We’re devoted to sharing information that’s truthful, up-to-date, and easy to understand. From project updates to emergency preparation, we will keep you informed every step of the way.

Open Communications
We encourage open dialogue with our stakeholders and are committed to making it as easy as possible to get in touch with us. Whether it’s through one-on-one conversations, focus groups, or surveys, we welcome your input and work hard to respond in a timely manner with care and transparency.

Stronger Communities
As part of our Earning Your Trust program, we proudly support local initiatives and events to educate about pipeline safety and infrastructure.
We also contribute to nonprofit and government-related organizations through charitable donations and grants. Our employees are encouraged to make a positive impact where they live and work.
Together, we’re helping communities grow stronger and safer.

Industry Advocacy
Through our dedication to continually improving pipeline safety, we actively participate in industry associations and committees that benefit the public through education, safety programs, legislative and regulatory advocacy, standards, training, research, environmental stewardship, and emergency preparedness.
Notably, our leadership played a pivotal role in the advocacy and development of API RP 1185, which focuses on Pipeline Public Engagement, and API RP 1173, outlining Pipeline Safety Management Systems. Together, these two recommended practices help shape how pipelines are run by making sure safety and listening to the public are part of every critical decision.
