Marathon Pipe Line’s Pipeline Finder App earns multiple industry awards
Originally published to the App Store and Google Play in 2014, the Pipeline Finder App provides valuable pipeline safety information and Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL) asset locations to the public.
This one-of-a-kind app was developed in conjunction with MPL’s Earning Your Trust program to deliver accurate, timely and transparent information to landowners, first responders and community officials. In 2020, the app received a makeover that included significant design and functionality upgrades.
The app allows users to:
Find MPL pipeline locations and learn what products are transported through them.
Call 811 and review steps for safe digging.
Call MPL's emergency phone number and access emergency response basics.
Find and contact local MPL representatives.
Report a pipeline concern by sharing their location to the pipeline with MPL.
The updated app has not only received positive stakeholder feedback but has also won four awards from two web design and communication industry groups
The W3 Awards, sanctioned by the Academy of Interactive Visual Arts, honors the best of the web, judging entries on creativity, usability, navigation, functionality, visual design and ease of use. MPL partnered with its app development vendor, BrandExtract, to submit the Pipeline Finder App for consideration. The app received an award in all three categories it was entered in:
Gold Award for Mobile Apps/Sites-Services & Utilities for Mobile Sites & Apps
Silver Award for Mobile Apps/Sites-Business for Mobile Sites & Apps
Silver Award for Mobile Apps/Sites-Maps & Navigation for Mobile Sites & Apps
Out of the 3,000 entries submitted in 2020, only 300 companies were awarded gold. Other notable 2020 gold winners included: BMW, Oracle, PWC, Under Armour, Hormel, Dairy Queen, Geico, T-Mobile, Motley Fool Stock Advisor, NASA, Lego, Google, and Nissan.
The Web Marketing Association MobileWebAwards recognizes excellence in the mobile web space, considering criteria such as creativity, impact, design, content, interactivity, ease of use, and use of the medium. MPL’s app won the 2020 Best Energy Mobile Application.
