Making Friends And Earning Trust

MPL volunteers work to earn the trust of East Sparta community

Students pose with Marathon Volunteer

On May 17, 2019, Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL) employees from the East Sparta area spent the day with the children of Sandy Valley Schools participating in the United Way of Greater Stark County’s Day of Caring.

Twenty-three MPL employees met students outside to clean and clear weeds around the school campus.

“Sandy Valley is extremely thankful for the assistance we received from MPL East Sparta for their efforts during the United Way Day of Caring,” said Sandy Valley Local School District Superintendent David Fischer. “We are so appreciative of everyone who volunteered to come and assist our staff and students with several of our entrances and flower beds throughout the district.”

However, it wasn’t just a work day. MPL employees made new friends with the students while having fun and sharing wisdom about what working for MPL means. The children were even treated to a special drone demonstration and learned how MPL uses drones for daily operations.

“There were multiple compliments from families and community members about the condition of our grounds during Sandy Valley's graduation held two days after the event,” said Fischer. “When we completed our projects for the day, many employees stated they still had time to assist in other areas, so they joined our elementary students at recess. It was priceless.”
