Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL) follows stringent pipeline design and construction standards and works closely with landowners and communities along the pipeline route before, during, and after construction.
The pipeline construction process involves route selection, regulatory permitting, design, site preparation, pipeline stringing, trenching, bending, welding, coating, lowering and backfilling, testing, and site restoration. MPL's internal standards provide detailed guidelines for each step in the construction process.
MPL designs and builds pipelines to meet or exceed the pipeline construction requirements provided by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Petroleum Institute (API), and others.
MPL tests all new pipelines using hydrostatic testing methods to identify any material or workmanship issues that could compromise the safe operation of the pipeline. Once operational, all MPL pipelines are regularly monitored and inspected as part of MPL's Integrity Management Program.
